The Ministry of Labour sets the minimum basic wage at QAR 1,000 per month for private sector workers including waiters, effective since Cabinet Resolution No. 13 of 2018. Employers must provide a food allowance of QAR 300 and accommodation allowance of QAR 500 for most nationalities, making total minimum compensation QAR 1,800 monthly. This applies to all restaurant staff under the Wage Protection System as of 2026.

Foreigners need an employer-sponsored work residence permit (Article 38 of Labour Law No. 14/2004, amended), valid for 1-5 years renewable. The employer first secures MOL approval and MOI visa stamping within 30 days of arrival. No self-sponsorship for restaurant jobs.

No formal education is mandated by Labour Law, but 2 years relevant experience is standard for work permit approval under MOL guidelines for skilled roles like cooks. Applicants must pass a medical fitness test for food handling. Qatarisation quotas may prioritize nationals for some positions.

Required documents include passport copy valid 6+ months, 6 photos, attested educational/experience certificates, medical report, and employer contract via MOL portal. Submit within 1 week of job offer approval. Processing takes 5-7 days for standard restaurant roles.
