Foreign drivers need a work residence permit sponsored by a Qatari employer, valid for one year and renewable up to five years. The employer applies via the Ministry of Labour portal after securing a job order, with processing taking 5-7 working days. A medical fitness certificate and police clearance from the home country are mandatory.

No formal education is required for standard driver roles, but 2 years of driving experience is typically needed for heavy vehicle drivers. Applicants must hold a valid driving license equivalent to Qatar's Category 3 or higher and pass a driving test. Age must be between 21 and 60 years.

Required documents include a passport valid for 6 months, attested academic certificates if any, 6 passport photos, a job offer letter, and a valid overseas driving license. The employer submits these to the Ministry of Labour for work permit approval, followed by medical and fingerprinting at MOI. Processing fee is QAR 300 per permit.
