As per the Public Authority for Manpower, the minimum salary for private household drivers is KD 120 per month as of January 2026, plus provision of accommodation and 3 meals per day. Employers must also pay KD 75 monthly towards medical insurance. Overtime is compensated at 1.25 times the hourly rate beyond 8 hours per day.

Foreign drivers require an Article 18 work residence visa sponsored by a Kuwaiti employer, valid for 1-3 years and renewable. The process takes 2-4 weeks after employer application via the Ministry of Interior portal. A medical fitness certificate and clean criminal record from the home country are mandatory.

Applicants must hold a valid home country heavy vehicle driving license (Class 3 or equivalent) attested by the Kuwait Embassy, with at least 2 years of experience. No formal education beyond high school is required, but passing a driving test from the Ministry of Interior is compulsory. Kuwaiti nationality or GCC citizenship grants priority under Kuwaitization quotas.

Required documents include a attested passport copy, home driving license, 6 passport photos, medical fitness report, and employment contract approved by PAM. The employer submits via the Tamkeen electronic system, with processing fee of KD 10. Approval is issued within 5 working days if complete.
