As per the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), the minimum salary approved for cleaning staff work permits is BHD 300 per month as of January 2026. Contracts must specify this base wage, with overtime at 1.25 times the hourly rate for hours over 8 per day. Employers cannot recruit below this threshold for expatriate workers.

Foreign workers need an employer-sponsored work residence permit approved by LMRA, valid for 2 years and renewable. The process requires a job offer, medical fitness certificate, and police clearance, with LMRA processing in 7 working days at BHD 200 fee. Sponsorship transfer is allowed after 6 months with LMRA approval.

No formal education is required, but LMRA mandates at least 1 year of relevant experience and age between 21 and 60 for work permit approval as of 2026. Basic health fitness certified by approved clinics is mandatory. Bahraini nationals need only ID and job contract.

Employers submit passport copy, attested experience certificate, medical report, and signed contract via LMRA's Expat Management System, processed in 5 working days for BHD 150 fee. Workers provide biometrics at NPRA within 30 days of arrival. Approved permits are issued electronically.
